A Chinese woman underwent a surgery to swap fingerprints between her hands so she could fool the biometric scanners and enter Japan after being deported. It’s basically just a skin graft, from fingers of one hand to the other, but I can’t help thinking of Neuromancer. Plastic surgery is not a new thing in human history. People have been piercing and tattooing for centuries, but it’s always been about looks and social status. Surgery to better interact with technology, not for research, but to a practical reason is brand new.
The past few years personal technology efforts were focused on improving interface to fit us better. Perhaps the next few years will make us fit better with technology?
